Most cheapest ways to travel to Nepal is via bus or jeep services. Regular services operate from the city of Varanasi and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

From Varanasi:

The Uttar Pradesh Road Transport Corporation operates a direct bus service connecting Varanasi and Kathmandu, with services available every two days. The journey duration ranges from 13 to 16 hours, and the fare is approximately Rs. 1300 (please verify the latest figures). Secure your tickets conveniently online at www.redbus.in.

For more frequent travel, daily bus services connect Varanasi with the Nepalese border areas of Sunauli (on the Indian side) or Bhairawi (on the Nepalese side). The average ticket cost is around Rs. 550, with a travel time of about 9 hours. Upon reaching the border, a short walk takes you to the Nepalese bus station, where you can board a bus bound for Kathmandu. The journey to the capital city takes approximately 9 to 12 hours.

Daytime buses operate until around 11 am, while overnight services are available until 4 pm. Non-AC tourist buses run between Varanasi and Pokhara/Kathmandu, making a single stop at Sunauli. The per-head ticket fare for this route is around Rs. 1333.

From Siliguri : 

Numerous train and bus services connect Kolkata to Siliguri. Trains will bring you to NJP (New Jalpaiguri), and from there, you can hire a taxi to reach Siliguri. Alternatively, direct bus services from Kolkata will take you directly to Siliguri. Once at the Siliguri bus station, you can find services to the frontier town of Panitanki. Another option is to book a taxi from NJP to Panitanki, with a travel time of around 45 minutes.

At Panitanki, you’ll cross the border via a bridge over the Mechi River, arriving at Kakarvitta on the Nepalese side. Buses operate between Kakarvitta and Kathmandu, with a journey time of approximately 13 hours. The cost for this route is around 1300 Nepalese rupees.
